Bára lookout point

The Bára lookout point is a 17-metre-high, triangular, hollow larch pyramid with an inner spiral, oak staircase (total of 78 steps). Right at the top the lookout point has a 10-metre-long, steel-and-zinc tube with a banner and a signal light (shining white during the day, red at night). This delicate thing of beauty is situated on Podhůra hill (403 a.s.l.) near a quartz formation with the prosaic name of Čertův hrádek (Devil’s Castle). Bára offers views of the Iron Mountains, the Orlické Mountains and the Krkonoše.

Lookout point on Zuberský vrch hill

This lookout point is situated not far from the village of Trhová Kamenice, near Zubří. After climbing the 182 steps you will be rewarded with a view of the Žďárské vrchy hills and the Iron Mountains. In fine weather you can see as far as the Krkonoše and Orlické Mountains.

Toulovcovy maštale is a unique group of rock formations, deep canyon valleys, rock towns, caves and solitary rocks named after what they reminded people of. Weaving through the entire area is a dense network of marked footpaths, on which walkers can refresh themselves at the many springs.

Land of the Celts

This is situated in the Iron Mountains, in and around the town of Nasavrky. This is a place with a beautiful landscape and a history dating back to the Celtic settlement here. Land of the Celts is a non-profit project implemented by the Boii association and offering activities for the public, aimed at presenting information about the former Celtic settlement. The focal point of the Land of the Celts is a Celtic open-air museum.

Ležáky national cultural monument

During the Second World War the former stonemason settlement of Ležáky served as a refuge for the parachutists of the SILVER A group with the Libuše radio station broadcast from London. The hamlet met its fate on 24th June 1942, when Ležáky was invaded by the German Nazis. All the inhabitants except for two children were murdered; the village was burnt down and razed to the ground.

Devět skal (Nine Rocks) hill

Devět skal (836 m) is the highest peak of the Žďárské vrchy hills and the second highest peak in the whole of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. Its name is derived from the rock labyrinth, consisting of three long ridges with nine towers and three smaller towers. There are several routes leading to Devět skal – the red markers from Cikháje, the blue markers from the village of Křižánky and the yellow footpath markers from the little town of Svratka. Climbing is possible on these rocks.

Čtyři palice (Four Thumbs) rock formation

Čtyři palice nature reserve is part of the Žďárské vrchy hills Protected Landscape Area and lies to the east of the village of Křižánky. The nature reserve consists of gneiss rock formation reminiscent of four thumbs, formed by the frost weathering of the rocks. The blue, yellow and green footpath markers lead to the nature reserve. Climbers also use the rocks here as training walls.

Staré Ransko nature reserve

To the south of Ždírec nad Doubravou lies a large protected area comprising stands of forests on the slopes of Ranský Babylon hill (673 a.s.l.). The area is protected because it is a rich habitat for the spring snowflake. It contains an extensive complex of the diverse forest ecosystems of the Ransko massif, forest species and a number of protected and endangered plant and animal species.

Kočičí hrádek (Cat’s Castle)

This miniature castle known as Kočičí hrádek was built before 1896 by Princess Wilhelmina of Auersperg, to please not only her children, but everyone in the area. Since then there have been pine-cone battles and the castle has been stormed pretty much every day... It really doesn’t matter that the castle walls are less than a metre high, it’s just fun, after all!

Slatiňany national stud farm

The Slatiňany Stud has been part of the Kladruby nad Labem National Stud since 1992. It is situated in eastern Bohemia near the town of Chrudim, not far from Pardubice. The Slatiňany Stud includes the Heřmanův Městec training centre, which has a gala tack room with a collection of bridles, saddles and harnesses, as well as the foal farm in Slavice, where colts and fillies are reared from when they are weaned until they are three and a half years old.

Doubrava Valley

The Doubrava Valley is a nature reserve, situated in the Protected Landscape Area of the Iron Mountains, to the north-east of Chotěboř, not far from the village of Bílek. The Doubrava, which rises near Ranský Babylon, is a very clean river, as proven by the rare species of plants and animals it is home to, such as seagulls. All along its length it has formed a stony riverbed, full of rock towers and giant's kettles, with a waterfall and a sea of rocks.
